Rome Headquarter

With the establishment of the Institute for International Legal Studies (ISGI) in 2001, two pre-existing scientific bodies of the CNR has been merged : the Institute of Legal Studies on the International Community and the Center for Latin American Legal Studies at the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’.

The Institute of Legal Studies on the International Community (ISGCI) was founded in 1986, as a Centre of Studies of the CNR and the Italian Society for the International Organization (SIOI), on the initiative of the distinguished internationalist Roberto Ago. It had been entrusted with the research on the Italian Practice of International Law, by which Italy, accepting the recommendations of the United Nations and the Council of Europe, has prepared a collection of his practice of international law from 1861.

With the transformation of the Study Centre into a CNR body (1994), the Institute’s research fields have been expanded through its participation in CNR projects of national interest and other numerous research and training initiatives.

The ISGI Rome headqurtes also hosts the Documentation and Training Centre on the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe – OSCE (OSCE Depository Library) and of the Italian Society of International Law and European Union Law (SIDI).
